1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how TastyTips (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use our mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

a) Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, username, and display name. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a unique identifier and, depending on your settings, your name and email address from the respective provider.

b) Profile Information
You may optionally provide a profile bio, website link, phone number, location, profile photo, and date of birth. Date of birth is used for age-appropriate content and is not publicly displayed.

c) User-Generated Content
We collect content you create within the Service, including posts, comments, reviews, ratings, stories (images and text overlays), and direct messages. Uploaded photos and videos are stored to deliver the Service.

d) Cuisine & Preference Data
During onboarding you may select cuisine preferences and usage intents. These are used to personalise your feed and recommendations.

e) Location Data
Foreground location: When you grant permission, we access your device’s location while the app is open to show nearby places on the map and in search results.
Background location (optional, iOS only): If you explicitly opt in to the “Visit Reminders” feature in Settings, we access your location in the background to detect visits to restaurants and cafes and send you a reminder to leave a review. Background location is never enabled by default and is only requested after you confirm the opt-in prompt.

f) Push Notification Tokens
If you enable push notifications, we store your device push token so we can deliver notifications for likes, comments, follows, messages, and visit reminders.

g) Device & Usage Data
We automatically collect device type, operating system version, app version, screens viewed, and actions taken within the app for analytics and product improvement.

h) Crash & Diagnostic Data
We collect crash logs and diagnostic data to identify and fix bugs.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
Authenticate users and manage sessions
Personalise your feed, recommendations, and search results
Deliver push notifications you have opted into
Detect visits for review reminders (only if you opt in)
Moderate content and enforce our Terms of Service
Improve app performance and user experience
Detect, investigate, and prevent abuse or fraud
Communicate with you about support requests

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the Service. Each may process your data in accordance with their own privacy policies:

Supabase — Backend database, authentication, and file storage.
Apple Sign In — Authentication via your Apple ID (when you choose this option).
Google Sign-In — Authentication via your Google account (when you choose this option).
Expo Push Notifications — Delivery of push notifications to your device.
Cloud infrastructure providers — Hosting, media processing, and content delivery.

These third parties are contractually required to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.

5. Data Storage and Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information from unauthorised access, alteration, or destruction.

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your information for as long as your account is active and as necessary to provide the Service.

Account deletion: You can delete your account at any time from Settings > Account > Delete Account within the app. When you request deletion:

Your account is immediately deactivated and hidden from other users.
You have a 30-day grace period during which you can log back in and choose to reactivate your account.
After 30 days, all your data — including your profile, posts, comments, likes, saved items, follower relationships, avatar, and uploaded media — is permanently deleted.
Messages you sent remain visible to other conversation participants with your identity removed (shown as “Deleted user”).

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under the age of 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Request correction or deletion of your data
Object to or restrict certain processing activities
Withdraw consent for data processing (e.g. location access, push notifications)
Request a portable copy of your data

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
